Suzen Joyce Perry

Looking for inspiring images linked with insightful thoughts, I start small with a sketch and grow. I work in watercolor, acrylic, pastel and oil to see where it takes me.

How would you describe your background?
I’m primarily self-taught; I recall drawing portraits in middle school. My father was a
portrait and landscape photographer, who encouraged my interests. I studied at Penn State, Framingham State and Worcester Art Museum School.
When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
In high school I went all out with a variety of art interests: sculpture, painting,
architectural models, jewelry and woodwork, and received the best grades.
What would surprise people to learn about you?
While engaged in 2D art, I ran a nature-friendly landscape business for 25 years.
How would you describe your art to someone who has never seen it?
I use a variety of mediums, mostly realism, expressing the beauty of nature and
humanity.
What achievements in the area of art are you proudest of?
I’ve had solo shows, won awards, sold paintings but especially have enjoyed seeing the delight in people’s expressions when they see my work.
How would you describe your art process?
Looking for inspiring images linked with insightful thoughts, I start small with a sketch
and grow. I work in watercolor, acrylic, pastel and oil to see where it takes me.
What is your usual studio/working day like?
Usual? I’m not that organized or routinely adept. When the spirit lifts me, I get it together in my studio or in the yard.
What is the most delightful part of your life outside of work?
Singing, dancing, swimming, watching nature to the tiniest, being busy in the garden or
surroundings, loved ones and friend’s visits.
