Painting Your Holiday Fantasy Workshop with Mary Iselin

This fall, we have a special opportunity to explore the joy of the season with Mary Iselin whose holiday paintings have brought magic to the walls at the Gallery @ Syd’s. Come to this class and get started at expressing your holiday “fantasy,” your feelings about the experience, the myth, magic, mystery and/or just plain fun, of a holiday.
Mary’s thoughts on this two-day class:
What is a Holiday but a “Holy Day?” As artists, many of us are particularly sensitive to the magic of the holidays—be they hopeful, joyful, mysterious, or terrifying, or all these things at once. We sense that these outward celebrations punctuate and give meaning to the intense spiritual/emotional aspect of the human experience in this physical world, to the collective experience, both conscious and unconscious. Especially around the holidays, we often long to capture our unique expression of these feelings in our chosen art.
Mary will give a brief demo of how she goes about rendering what she has come to call a “fantasy” painting. After lunch, students will begin their own fantasy pieces. This might include research on their own laptops or phones, sketching studies, or diving right into the actual paintings.
