I love shading and trying to make things pop with color or shading, showing movement with light and shading/colors.

About Alaine Williams

How would you describe your background?

I am an Accountant that does Art as a hobby. I grew up with a mother who painted, did pressed flower arrangements and designed in porcelain. She would include me in just about everything she was doing, by allowing me to do something with her and she would finish it. I did my first abstract picture at age 3.  My interest started young, and I was trained in high school and in college.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

I was always interested in painting, drawing, pen & ink & photography. But it probably wasn’t until I was in high school when I was introduced to the work of Georgia O’Keeffe,  a “pioneering American artist widely recognized as the ‘Mother of American Modernism.’” I saw an exhibit of her work in New York at the Metro. In high school I took every art class I could get. But I figured it could only be a hobby so I went to college and got my BA in Accounting and minored in fine arts where I really took to photography I have just started painting 3 years ago.

What would surprise people to learn about you?

I was born in Okinawa, Japan, and love the Japenese culture. I want to learn Japanese-style art.

How would you describe your art to someone who has never seen it?

I’ve just started painting I would say it is abstract with bright colors.

What achievements in the area of art are you proudest of?

Various awards long the way and being in the Keene Art Walk and now displaying at Syd’s.

How would you describe your art process?

I love shading and trying to make things pop with color or shading, showing movement with light and shading/colors.

What is your usual studio/working day like?

Working on art is something I do to decompress and when the mood strikes. No usual working art day, I wait for inspiration and I love MAAA because I have been inspired by all the great members.

What is the most delightful part of your life outside of work?

I enjoy animals and love taking care of my 3 cats and spending time watching nature.
