About Bob King
When did you know you wanted to be an artist?
I started my interest in art in my 30s carving, painting, and competing in wooden decoy competitions.
After taking a significant break from my decoy carving, I mentioned to my wife that I would like to try flat art sometime. On my 50th birthday, she gave me a kit with a sampling of media components and a small easel. One winter day, I opened the kit and went to the colored pencils. My first art from the kit is of a bluebird. Several years of colored pencil led to acrylic painting. I was hooked. After many years of using acrylics, I switched to oils. No looking back for me.
What would surprise people to learn about you?
My desire to produce the finest quality woodworking has been the inspiration for a 40-year career producing high end stairs and balustrade. My mindset of doing fine detail has been reflected in my work and paintings.
How would you describe your art to someone who has never seen it?
My art is based on realism with details. I love the fine details! Landscapes and birds are my common themes.
