Q&A with Seth Bond Perry

How would you describe your background?

I grew up in Belmont, NH. I attended Keene State College and studied Political Science. I also received my associates degree from New Hampshire Community Technical College in Laconia to achieve my Associates in Graphic Design. I then began a career as a graphic designer/production artist. I worked at one print shop for 20 as the sole artist on the staff. In 2020 I left that position to create and try to sell my work full time.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

I have always considered myself and all people artists. I realized that I wanted to be in the business of creating art after college. This led to the career as a graphic artist and eventually to the return what I felt I had been all along, an artist.

What would surprise people to learn about you?

I do not have depth perception. I believe this becomes apparent in my view of the world as presented in my art. I think this gives unique perspective to my work that viewers find interesting, yet can’t quite place why.

How would you describe your art to someone who has never seen it?

It is the “i don’t know if it is, but I like it” sort of art. I try to present what i see in my minds eye as realistically as possible and I try to present reality through a fantastic lens.

What achievements in the area of art are you proudest of?

I am always pleased to hear that someone has been moved by my work. Currently I am feeling proud of that I am included in the Fan Pack Deck of the game Wingspan. My illustration of a northern cardinal was chosen.

How would you describe your art process?

I begin the piece and allow it to unfold as I work. Although I have an idea of the result that I am after. I work fairly quickly and fearlessly. I try not to worry about “mistakes”. I remember that if I wait to do it perfectly I will never do it at all.

What is your usual studio/working day like?

I prioritize the work needed to be done for the day. Commission? Supply Shopping? Free day to create for me? From there, I begin the day. I promote products on social media, I paint, I draw, I ship art to customers. By the end of the day whether I have worked on a drawing or painting or some other aspect of being creative I will have focused about 6-8 hours of the day to work.

What is the most delightful part of your life outside of work?

I enjoy my life with partner Jennifer and our super fun dog Doug. We enjoy playing board games and spending time at camp in Maine. We enjoy our simplicity and peaceful times together.
